Late Summer Bounty

There are no more cherries at the supermarkets. A sure sign that it is past midsummer and that the days are getting shorter and shorter.

Late summer through early fall is stone fruit season, so instead of cherries and all manner of berries, you get apricots, peaches, plums, and nectarines. (Well, technically cherries are stone fruits as well, but they explode onto the scene in early summer.)

Introducing the pluot, a hybrid of plums and apricots. As you can see from the smooth skin, they're more plum than apricot. This particular variety is called a "dinosaur egg pluot", because of its peculiar coloring.

Delicious!
