The Big Blue and Yellow Tent is Back

On Wednesday evening we went and saw the latest Cirque du Soleil traveling show to come to the Bay Area. Bought the ticket months ago. I'm a huge fan of Cirque du Soleil. I've seen four of their traveling shows (Alegria, Quidam, Dralion, and Saltimbanco) and I've seen Mystere in Las Vegas. O and Zumanity are still on my must-see list.

The new show that we saw on Wednesday is called Corteo. The whole show represents a man's dream or fantasy about his own funeral cortege. It's filled with angels, circus acts, pretty girls, hunky men, midgets, and giants.

The different acts included the usual Cirque mainstays: amazing gymnastics by both men and women, funny slapstics by clowns, and aerobatics by beautiful girls. In addition, they had an awesome juggling act, a tightrope walker, men and women rolling around in giant steel rings (it's more amazing than it sounds, promise), and many others.

Corteo doesn't have as much of a dream-like, uber-fantasy feel of the other Cirque shows I've seen. Still, it is unmistakeably a Cirque show, and it was very, very good.
