It's my next-to-last day at work here at SBC (hallelujah!), and I'm sitting at my desk munching on Logan Bread, which Bill baked this evening using a recipe from one of his mountaineering books.
It's a very dense, very rich kind of energy bread that (I assume) was "designed" to keep for extended periods and to provide a big jolt of energy to weary mountain climbers. It's kind of like fruitcake with less moisture and no alcohol.
I helped make the second batch. Ingredients include flour, wheat germ, walnuts, shaved almonds, dried blueberries, dried cherries (two kinds), half a dozen eggs, milk, oil, molasses, honey, and maple syrup. Yep... you can see that it's chock full of energy! It's probably like 50 billion calories per slice! But it's yummy!
