As I was getting ready to go to sleep, I went to my thermostat to check the temperature setting. It was set to 78 degrees. Pressing the button to turn it into a (much) cooler 70 degrees, I thought briefly about leaving it at 76 and turning on my stand fan instead. After a brief pause I thought, "Screw it. I wanna be nice and cool under my blankie!" I then proceeded to set the thermostat to 70.
Then, for some odd reason, a sobering statistic popped into my head. The United States has under 5% of the world's population, yet we consume 25% of the world's total energy output. One quarter. Of all the energy produced by all the countries on earth! Yet we only have less than one-twentieth of the people! And I'm like, "It's incumbent upon people like you (me) to be more responsible global citizens!"
So now the thermostat is set higher. To 71. Hahaha. Good night.
